On January 4, 2004 in Vancouver, Rachel Davis was shot as she tried to protect a stranger from being beaten. The circumstances of her death inspired many people across Canada, just as her life inspired her hundreds of friends in the Vancouver skateboarding community. In 2005 we created the Rachel Davis Foundation to honour her memory.
In 2018, after the death of Rachel’s mother, the actress Janet Wright, husband Bruce Davis moved to Victoria and merged the original Rachel Davis Foundation with the Victoria Foundation to create the Rachel Davis Fund at the Victoria Foundation. The new fund will recognize special qualities of character, compassion, and integrity by young Canadians entering adulthood or are at an important transitional point in their lives. The fund will also support the work of organizations working in the area of childrens' rights, family justice and self-esteem of young women.
